Vivo Y400 5G: Stylish design, better battery, impressive display, with practical AI features
After launching the Y400 Pro in India last month, Vivo is all set to open its base model soon. The Vivo Y400 5G will launch in India on August 4 and in Indonesia on the same day. Vivo hasn’t revealed much about the Y400 apart from its design and colours. However, the phone has been teased quite a bit in Indonesia, revealing its key specifications and features. This gives us an idea of what to expect from the upcoming Vivo phone.

In India. The Vivo Y400 is being promoted as the new definition of (Aesthetic Luxury) for the youth. Vivo claims that the phone has a “perfect blend of style, durability, and performance”. The teaser shows the Y400 with a marble-like glossy finish, which is quite similar to the Freestyle White colour variant of the Y400 Pro. The Vivo Y400 features a pill-shaped camera module with two sensors and an Aura light ring at the bottom. The mobile is also confirmed to be launched in Glam White and Olive Green colours.
Specifications: The Vivo Y400 5G is still under wraps, but a teaser released in Indonesia has revealed some key details. The upcoming Vivo phone will pack a 6,000mAh battery, which is bigger than the 5,500mAh battery on the Y400 Pro. On paper, one can expect better battery life, probably around two days of usage. The dual camera setup at the back includes a 50MP Sony IMX852 sensor, which is the same as the Pro version.
Display: The Vivo Y400 sports a 6.67-inch FHD+ AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate. It is a flat panel, unlike the curved display on the Y400 Pro. The Vivo Y400 will come with an IP68/69 rating for dust and water resistance, which is the highest protection for a phone at the moment. The Vivo Y400 Pro, on the other hand, has a lower IP65 rating. In terms of durability, the upcoming Vivo phone looks good.
Features: Vivo has also teased several AI features for the Y400 5G, such as Google’s Circle to Search, AI Notes Summary, AI Transcript Assist, AI Captions, and AI Documents. These are useful features in terms of productivity.
Vivo V50e launch today: live stream time, expected price, specifications, and availability
The Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 SoC will power the Vivo Y400. This is an entry-level chipset used in phones priced under Rs 10,000, such as the Redmi 14C and POCO M7. It was announced in 2023 as the first Snapdragon 4-series chipset built on a 4nm process. This is the same chipset that was also seen in the Vivo Y300, which was launched last year and served as the predecessor to the Y400. If this is true, this chipset may disappoint buyers hoping for an upgrade, and the price of the phone may not justify it either. For reference, the Vivo Y300 was launched in India at a starting price of Rs 21,999.
This chipset will also prove to be the main differentiator between the regular Y400 and the Y400 Pro. The Y400 Pro, powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 7300 processor, is priced at Rs 24,999. The rest of the specifications of both the Vivo Y400 and Y400 Pro seem to be similar.
The Vivo Y400 appears to be a solid offering in terms of display, battery, and durability, but its recycled chipset could hold it back, especially if it is priced very close to the Pro model. The launch is just a week away, so we can expect to know all the details about the upcoming Vivo phone soon.
