Google Pixel 10 series launch

HIGHLIGHT

  • The addition of a telephoto lens could significantly improve the camera quality of the base Google Pixel 10.
  • Google Pixel buyers in India could opt for the Pixel 10 over the Pixel 10 Pro if it has a telephoto lens and the Tensor G5 chip.
  • Google Pixel usually reserves the telephoto camera for its Pro models.

Google continues its tradition of revealing the design of its flagship Pixel phones well in advance of the launch. The company has released the rear design of the Pixel 10 model through its official e-store, which doesn’t reveal much new. The rear design of the phone resembles that of the Pixel 9 series, suggesting that Google is adopting a safe and familiar design approach. However, the triple rear camera setup includes a periscope telephoto camera, which can help in taking zoomed-in shots. Interestingly. This time, the standard variant is also rumoured to have a telephoto lens. Google’s strategy is to make the base Pixel more attractive, and it seems to be working.

The 13-second clip, which is live on the e-store, shows the phone’s design along with the number ’10’. The black colour scheme is seen with a blue-grey tint, likely in the frost colour scheme spotted in the Google Pixel 10 renders shared by Android Headlines. Other rumours suggest that the phone will be available in colours like obsidian, indigo, and limoncello.

Although the teased phone has a third rectangular periscope telephoto lens, it’s unclear whether this is the base Pixel 10 or the Pro model. The Android Headlines report claims that the base Pixel 10 will have a telephoto camera. However, the telemarketing phone has a secondary sensor (possibly a temperature sensor) under the flashlight module, next to the cameras. As a result, this phone more closely resembles the Google Pixel 9 Pro than the Pixel 9.

However, we expect the base Google Pixel 10 to have a telephoto lens. Google usually reserves telephoto lenses for its Pro models, but including it in the base model would instantly improve the Pixel 10’s zoom and portrait shots. In fact, in our Pixel 9 review last year, we found portraits to be weak due to the lack of a dedicated telephoto lens.

Google Pixel 10 series launch in August

Additionally, the Google Store page indicates that the Pixel 10 Pro will arrive in India on August 21. You can sign up to receive the latest updates about the new phones, including availability information. And those who sign up before 12:30 pm (IST) on August 19 will receive a special offer via their registered email. You can avail of this offer when buying a Pixel 10 series phone.

If the base Pixel 10 gets a telephoto camera. It will be a notable upgrade over the Pixel 9, making the setup even more versatile. Pixel fans in India will no longer have to pay extra for the Pro model to get better zoom capabilities. Combine this with the Pixel’s familiar but iconic design and the so-called TSMC-made 3nm Tensor G5 chip, which is expected to offer better thermal efficiency and battery life, and the base Pixel 10 could become the best value-for-money option in this lineup. According to Canalys, Google is already among the top five premium smartphone brands in India, and now with the Google Store going live in the country, the brand is well-positioned to attract more buyers through targeted offers.
